In the city of Stormlock, a group of adventurers plan a daring heist to steal an artifact from the stronghold of a powerful mage. If they are caught, their patron–a wild Forgemind– will detonate the tiny gem installed in their necks, destroying all memory of their employer and their target.
At the vast Darkwater Dam, a rebel cell disguised as traveling bards speaks quietly to a grease-covered dam worker. Later that night, tired from a long shift, the worker forgets to lock an important door, and the very expensive and delicate magical device imprisoning the river’s spirit is mysteriously damaged beyond repair leaving the dam little more than rubble.
In a mage den in Hang Harbor, a Wizard drinks a glowing green potion before falling back on a pile of cushions, her eyes moving rapidly as her mind sails along the information-rich currents of the Ethereal Sea. Near her, a sorcerer has his horns replaced with rune-covered silver spikes, as the Fleshsmith finishes their work, the sorcerer uses them to capture one of the ethereal messengers that constantly zip past, altering it ever-so-slightly so that the wizard can follow its path back to their target.
