Have you ever used a cursed 5th Edition Magic Sword?
"Don't use it," said the scarred man behind me as the sergeant handed me the oddly light blade.
"What? Why why wouldn't I use a magic sword?" I asked.
"Because if you use it, you'll be dead. Take my advice and hang at the back until one of the bastards on the other side drops a decent spear."
The man took the sword the sergeant handed him and examined it for a moment before tossing it dismissively on the ground.
"You're going to get these kids killed with this crap," he said to the sergeant. "It's the power source. No gems. No fancy metals. No runes. Enchantments got to get power from somewhere and these things are made too cheaply to power themselves so they take it from you. They call 'em things 'Soldier's Curse'."
With that, the scarred man turned and began to walk away. He paused for a moment and turning his head to look back at me he said "You know, it ain't the magic that's the real curse. the real curse is the man who paid bottom dollar for a shit sword knowing full well it would be some poor kid like you who would die killing some other poor kid holding the exact same sword."
