Descriptive narration is an essential component of any GM's toolkit. It adds flavor and excitement to the gameplay by immersing players into the world you are creating together. When GMs take the time to describe the action in a vivid and engaging way, players become more invested in the story, their characters, and the outcome of the encounter.
But it's not easy. Especially during combat, there are a million different things to keep track of and adding improvised descriptions of hits can be tough. To help solve that problem, I use the GMs best friend: Tables!
In the third part of this series, we tackle the skeleton's favorite type of damage: Bludgeoning!
Roll | Description |
1 | With a loud thud, the weapon connects with your enemy's flesh, sending a shockwave through its body and causing it to stumble momentarily. |
2 | Your weapon smashes into your enemy's side, caving in a portion of its ribcage and eliciting a pained grunt from the beast. |
3 | As your weapon strikes the enemy's armored shoulder, you hear a sickening crunch as something gives way under the force of the blow. |
4 | Your enemy recoils in agony as the weapon lands squarely on its head, a small flock tiny of birds momentarily circles them before vanishing as they regain their senses. |
5 | The weapon lands a glancing blow on your enemy's leg, causing it to buckle and sending the creature tumbling to the ground. |
6 | Your enemy staggers backwards as the weapon slams into its chest, leaving a deep indentation in its tough armor. |
7 | With a mighty swing, your weapon connects with the enemy, sending a shockwave through the air and causing nearby objects to rattle and shake. |
8 | Your weapon strikes the enemy's body with a resounding crack, causing them to twitch and spasm uncontrollably. |
9 | As your weapon connects with the enemy's shoulder, you hear a sickening pop as the joint dislocates under the force of the blow. |
10 | Your enemy howls in agony as your weapon slams into its side, shattering bones and leaving them vulnerable. |
