Acid can be one of the most destructive and chaotic forms of damage in your GM arsenal. In fact, only 15 monsters in the Monster Manual are immune to Acid damage! As a GM, you want to make sure that your players feel the impact of every hit. To help you do that, I've put together a list of 10 descriptions of acid damage to help you bring your combat encounters to life. Whether you're party is melting through enemy armor or burning away flesh, these descriptions will add an extra layer of detail to your combat encounters. So get ready to roll that d10 and add some acid to your adventures!
Even if you only use Wizards of the Coast materials, there are A LOT of different spells in the game. I have tried to make things as generic as possible but if these just aren't working, consider asking your player to describe the effects of their spell on the target.
Roll | Description |
1 | Your spell hits the enemy with a spray of corrosive acid, eating away at their flesh. They scream in agony as the acid burns through their skin. |
2 | You unleash a burst of acidic energy that engulfs the enemy in a cloud of noxious fumes. They stagger backwards, coughing and gagging as the caustic gas fills their lungs. |
3 | Your spell hits the enemy with a blast of caustic acid that melts away their defenses. They recoil in horror as the acid eats through them, leaving them weakened. |
4 | A thick, viscous acid drips from spot hit by your spell, splattering onto the enemy and eating away at their flesh. They howl in pain as the acid begins to eat through skin and muscle. |
5 | You unleash a torrent of acidic slime that engulfs the enemy, leaving them coated in a corrosive ooze. They writhe in agony as the acid eats away at their flesh. |
6 | Your spell hits the enemy with a burst of acid that leaves their skin blackened and charred. They struggle to move as the acid burns through their muscles and bones. |
7 | A spray of acidic droplets rains down on the enemy as your spell connects, eating away at their body. They desperately try to dodge the deadly spray, but to no avail. |
8 | The enemy recoils in horror as your spell hits them with a burst of acidic energy, leaving their flesh raw and blistered. They scream in agony as the acid continues to eat through their unprotected skin. |
9 | You unleash a stream of caustic acid that sears through the enemy's flesh and bone. They stagger backwards, clutching at their wounds as the acid continues to eat away at their body. |
10 | Your spell hits the enemy with a blast of acidic mist that coats their eyes and mouth. They cough and sputter as the acid eats through their throat and lungs, leaving them gasping for air. |
