The tomb smelled of dust, the sulfurous resin we had used to blow down the door, and bones.

The tip had been good. Muirias was filled with tombs that had long since been stripped of anything of value, but not this one. A wealth of artifacts were scattered about the room. Skulls engraved with fae runes filled with silver, piles of ancient coins, and dozens of jars made of the strange fairy marble that was so prized by Merchant collectors. I ignored it all. In the center of the room, atop a granite slab lay an ancient corpse dried in the desiccated air of the tomb for centuries. Buried deep in the corpse's chest was a blade. Intricate carvings adorned the blade and as I reached for it, I felt my fingertips grow cold. The power within the blade reached out to me.

Faster than I thought possible from one so old, the wizard who had first brought us to this place grabbed my wrist before I could seize the sword.

"Do not touch it, fool," he said. "That is the Leechknife. It is a foul blade and has brought nothing but woe to every warrior who has wielded it."

Once it was a masterpiece, a blade forged by the holy empire to be wielded by a saint. One whose righteous power would bring about a thousand years of peace. It is a pity that both blades and souls can be corrupted.

The sword regains any lost charges at midnight.

It is not a soldier's sword. It is not designed to be wielded in battle against other swords. Those swords are stout and long made of strong iron.

It is not a king's sword. It is not meant to be a symbol of power. Those swords are jewel-encrusted and polished to a mirror's shine.

It is a killer's sword. A sword for dealing unexpected death in silent halls. Its blade is dull, its edge like dragon's teeth. It is the sword of an assassin.
